MIAO, Oct 1: In what can be termed as an act of sheer
revenge, cadres belonging to IM faction of NSCN gunned
down rifleman Diwan Singh of 42 Assam Rifles in broad
daylight on September 30 last.
Acting on a specific intelligence input, the Assam
Rifles based at Miao thronged the jungles of Old
Songking-Sikao in Namphai-II area in the morning of
September 30 last to raid the camp of NSCN (IM).
But the insurgents ambushed the AR team before the team
could reach their destination. In the firing a bullet
pierced through the forehead of Rifleman Diwan Singh who
immediately died on the spot.
Assam Rifles jawans retaliated and the bursting sound of
gunfire clearly echoed through nearby local villages.
After two hours of fierce gun fight the insurgents
retreated safely under the cover of dense forest.
The AR team produced the body of the deceased at Miao
police station in the evening and lodged an FIR. The
body was taken to Dinjan, Assam late evening and after
completion of official procedures, the body will be
flown to his native village in Uttarakhand, Miao PS
Looking at the seriousness and intensity of the
situation, requisite reinforcements have already arrived
and the entire area has been cordoned and combing
operation launched. Sources speculate at least 15-20
NSCN (IM) cadres under the command of Self Styled
Captain Alex to be present in the area.
It may be mentioned that the 42 Assam Rifles and Para
Troops jointly launched operation in Ningrang area of
Namphai-II on July
during which two cadres of IM faction were killed. There
were speculations doing the rounds that NSCN (IM) will
take revenge. The killing of the rifleman yesterday is
seen as an act of sheer revenge. The area is peaceful
today but busy movements of Assam Rifles clearly
indicate another fierce fight is inevitable.
